THE JOURNEY …

The oldest form of theatre is the dining table - a new show every night, same players

… JUXTAPOSITION

In search of a perfect top, having travelled to dozens of stone yards in this new country I finally found the precision in texture and colour. I met Snow White, a unique Travertine sitting alone and the only one imported from Italy.

After having secured the Travertine, a new journey awaited me for the creation of a solid dark steel base. Deep down I knew that this production process would turn out to be a designer's nightmare, especially in a land with a language unknown to me. However, with the desired need for perfection, I embarked upon achieving the impossible. Thus began the drama of contrast in Mumbai to create my design, from bending the metal to getting the balance, height, and curves of the base. This was a foreign task to Indian craftsmen that work with their hands and not heavy machinery.

& THE JOY

These interactions turned out to be memorable and educational as my visits to the steel yard whilst rethinking the process in order to retain my design, made me realise that rubies can only be found in the dust.
