Milan Design Week

Every April, hoards of designers, industry folks, and curious jet-setters descend upon Milan, looking for inspiration at Salone del Mobile and Milan Design Week. The sky is the limit, as interior and fashion brands alike seek to outdo each other in the creation of awe-inspiring displays and installations for their new and reissued products.

With hundreds of events taking place, here's my pick of the crop:

G U A X S

Sculptural vases made of authentic and sustainable materials, manufactured by hand following practical knowledge and handicraft techniques developed over centuries. Each piece shows the variable traces of human work on its surface, creating interplay between sculptural form and texture.

murano glass

Scrap glass from Murano glass processing, provided to ten Italian designers and architects for the creation of a lamp: a semi-finished product waiting to be regenerated that turns into a unique, strong, essential, poetic, flexible piece. In another light!

A P P A R A T U S

INTERLUDE Hand-embroidered Hanging Lamp. Hand-dyed silk, metallic bullion, and dimensional beading evoke synesthetic interpretations of a musical score - organic forms recorded on a strict grid. The patinated brass mesh creates a delicate veil suspended around an illuminated alabaster core.

Each individual fold on the INTERLUDE CABINET : VARIATION 2 is hand stitched in place. Brass hardware mimics the form of the stacked leather.
